Dr Moshokoa

Dr Moshokoa is highly motivated and as the first black female urologist in South Africa who has dedicated her skill and knowledge towards serving the community at large. She has special interest in reconstructive surgery. Over the years she has developed guidance and focus to be relevant to the community and has served and sharing knowledge globally. Dr Moshokao has relentlessly managed to bring a different approach in teaching and in team building. She is an individual who pays attention to detail, has adapted to change in teaching and Surgery and having worked in department of health, public service for 23 years has an unrivalled commitment to quality health care. As a head of department and senior manager for over 13 years she has also learnt to implement and sustain excellent organizational and communication skills in teaching and research at the same platform. Dr Moshokoa has worked in low income setups, with a clear strategy and structure. She functions well in a team, is solution driven and thrives under pressure.

Dr Johann (Laurie) Blake is a urologist based in Pretoria at Pretoria Urology
Hospital. He qualified with a bachelors in Medicine in 2007. He has been a fellow
of the College of Urologists in South Africa since 2017. He went on to complete
his Master’s Degree in Urology in 2018 at the University of Pretoria. Dr Blake
works in the Pelvic Wellness Unit and has a wide range of interests, ranging from
Female urology, Endourology to Robotic Surgery.

Dr Raymond Campbell

I was born and raised in the township of Eersterust, Pretoria.
I studied medicine at the University of Pretoria and then went on to qualify as a
Urologist in 2007 obtaining my FCS and MMed degrees from TUKS.
I worked at the Pretoria Urology Hospital from 2007, becoming a partner and also a
founding member of the Pelvic Wellness unit, which is the premier unit of it’s kind
in the country.

Since leaving practice in 2017 I have been involved in assisting Government with
HIV and Public Health programs. Our company is currently one of the largest
providers of male medical circumcisions in the country.

We also founded a primary healthcare technology platform – Phulukisa Health
Solutions which has achieved global technology awards and is focused on making
access to basic health services possible to the underserviced communities.
I also remain involved in exciting Urology programs in the public sector like the
Penile Reconstruction Program we started in Mthatha for botched circumcisions
where we have performed over 50 penis reconstructions over the past 3 years.
I remain a faculty member at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences Urology department
where I teach.

Prof Freddie Claassen

Prof Freddie Claassen serves as the Head of the Department of Urology at the University of the Free State. He possesses a strong passion for genitourinary reconstructive surgery, particularly in areas such as urethral stricture repair and hypospadias repair. He  has established specialized clinics for reconstructive, paediatric, and urogynecology cases. He was awarded a PhD in 2018 for his research on the management of inflammatory urethral strictures.

Prof Sanjay Kulkarni

Dr Sanjay Kulkarni was born in Pune, India. He attended BJ Medical College at Pune. Dr PK Bharucha was his post graduate teacher for 3 year residency in surgery at KEM Hospital in Pune.

Sanjay underwent Urology training in England from 1981 to 1986. He was trained by Mr Michael Heal at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, followed by Mr Richard Turner Warwick, considered as father of urethral reconstruction. Dr Kulkarni returned to motherland India to serve the people of his country. Dr Jyotsna Kulkarni his wife and Sanjay were pioneers in introducing Laparoscopy in India. They started India’s first animal laboratory for Laparoscopy training.

Dr Francisco Martins

Francisco E. Martins is a Consultant Urologist who with a focus on male and female genitourinary reconstruction, particularly the complications of pelvic malignancies, minimally invasive treatment options for penile and urethral cancers, and Andrology. He obtained his Medical Degree at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon in 1983. He earned his title as Specialist in Urology by the Portuguese Medical Association, College of Urology, in 1993. He did temporary Urology residency training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard University in Boston (September – December 1991), and research and clinical fellowship at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (1993 –1994). His areas of major clinical and research interest are: Genito-urethral and Pelvic Trauma and Reconstruction, Vesicovaginal and Rectovaginal Fistula, Female Pelvic Medicine, Erectile Dysfunction, Urinary Diversion, and Penile and Urethral Cancer. He has been Consultant Urological Surgeon at Santa Maria University Hospital (2008-present date). In May 2017, he was elected to the GURS Board of Directors (Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons) and in October 2017 and September 2018 was granted Honorary Membership of the Hungarian Urological Association (HUA) and South African Urological Association (SAUA), respectively. In May 2019, he was elected President of the GURS (Society of Genito-Urinary Reconstructive Surgeons). He is member of several national and international societies and associations.

He is member of the first EAU (European Association of Urology) Guidelines Panel for Urethral Strictures. He is peer reviewer for several journals, including, Actas Urológicas Españolas, Advances in Urology, Biomed Research International, British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research, European Urology, International Urology and Nephrology, Journal of Men’s Health, Journal of Surgery, World Journal of Urology and Journal of Urology. He has presented and lectured at numerous national and international meetings, conferences and congresses and has published and co-authored over 60 articles in peer review journals, 7 book chapters and edited 3 books on erectile dysfunction, penile cancer and male genitourethral reconstruction as well as 3 Special Issues for Advances in Urology, Biomed Research International, and Translational Andrology and Urology.

Dr Igor Vaz

Dr. Igor Vaz is a Mozambican physician and surgeon, known for his extensive work in urology, oncology and reconstructive surgery.

In his professional experience on general surgery, oncology, urology, urogynecology, erectile dysfunction, male and female urinary tract reconstructive surgery, complex obstetric fistula surgery, total pelvic reconstruction, pediatric urology, disorders of sexual development (DSD), gender dysphoria, genitourinary feminization in DSD, Dr. Vaz has groundbreaking work that includes his techniques developed for very complex to deemed “incurable” cases of obstetric/traumatic fistula and of urethral and bladder neck reconstructions, augmentations cystoplasty, neobladder’s, neovagina, among others.

He received his medical degree (MD) in 1980, in General Surgery in 1991, FCS Surgery, international member of examiner´s by COSECSA, Urology by Oporto University in Portugal, and performed reconstructive pelvic surgery in different countries – Mozambique, Portugal, France, Italy and South Africa.

After obtaining a degree in medicine he began his activity as a military doctor with more than 2,000 war emergency and elective surgeries during 5 years as the only doctor in a region with 150,000 inhabitants.

Since 1981, he has worked in Mozambique as Director of several hospitals and as head of Surgery department at Maputo Central Hospital and Faculty of Medicine at University Eduardo Mondlane, Director of Urology Services at the Maputo Central Hospital, as Regent of the chair of Urology at the Faculty of Medicine, and Postgraduate teaching in Urology, General Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics. He has been working in medical assistance at private and public hospitals, in teaching of doctors and surgeons, extending his expertise in training surgeons in several countries in Africa, Europe, America and Asia.

Active lecturer member at SIU, PAUSA, COSECSA, APU, ALU, FIGO, GURS, ISOGURS, AUA, EUA, SAAU.

Since 1986 he is performing fistula surgery all over the country, and in Africa, Europe South America, and Asia, with more than 5.000 surgeries performed.

In 2016, he founded Focus Fistula Mozambique, a non-profit organization with the mission to provide cost-free surgery to vulnerable and low-income women, girls, and children.  Focus Fistula is at the forefront of fistula training and treatment programs in Mozambique and led by Dr. Vaz the organization has offered to date more than 1,000 free fistula surgeries and reconstructive surgery with the support of national and international partners.

He is currently the Vice-president of the International Society of Obstetric Fistula Surgeons (ISOFS).

Dr Frans van Wijk

I am passionate about science and urology. The focus of my practice is more on reconstructive surgery and urinary incontinence. I have a strong desire to help develop skills and clinical judgement in students and young urologists.
